Common Name: Chengal Pasir
Scientific Name: Hopea odorata
Points of Interest:
Due to its rapid growth and straight upright form, Chengal Pasir is becoming an increasingly popular species to plant to provide shade along roadsides. The beautiful yellowish-brown timber (sometimes called Merawan) is very tough and heavy and is believed to be more long-lasting than teak. Being also resistant to fungal and termite attacks, it commonly used for general construction, building of boats, furniture, flooring, and weatherboards.
